Slidehand — Mzed Studio case study
Church presentation software with a shared Rust core, native Windows and macOS apps, and its own GPU renderers.
Overview
Live presentation software for churches: one shared core with a native app and GPU rendering on each platform.
The problem
Church services are often run by volunteers who need to move between lyrics, scripture, and video live, with no room for mistakes. Slidehand keeps the operator's workflow simple and keyboard-first, on a fast native engine built for live output.
What we built
- One Rust core shared by fully native Windows and macOS apps, so both behave the same
- GPU rendering on each platform with smooth transitions and identical output on both
- 4K video playback on macOS with audio kept in sync
- Scripture lookup from free-text references like John 3:16-18, with bundled public-domain translations
- Keyboard-first operation with a command palette
- Pasted lyric sheets split into sections automatically, with repeated choruses detected and chord lines stripped
